 MADNESS INTERVIEW: MERY GARCÍA

Mexican model, inveterate traveler, free spirit, and otherworldly outlook. Mery doesn't just pose: she creates atmospheres. In Madness, she made it clear that art can be sexy, delicate, and profound all at the same time.

BEHIND THE CAMERA

Who is Mery when she turns off the camera, untangles her hair, and makes herself comfortable anywhere in the world?

I'm a very quiet and introverted girl who enjoys a good book and loves being at home. I love deep conversations.

You're originally from Mexico, but you've been traveling around Europe with your body, your gaze, and your art for some time now. What is this tour teaching you the most?

That no matter where you're from or where you're going, we're all looking for something in common.

When did you discover that nude art was your medium of expression? Did it come naturally from the beginning, or did you have to overcome internal (or external) barriers?

It was something natural, but in the process I had to break barriers that I wasn't even aware of.

What moves you more: provoking with an image or moving with it?

Get excited with her.

Have you felt that your work has made you freer... or has it also made you face a lot of prejudice?

It's been a mix of both.

How does a good shoot affect you emotionally? Do you come away recharged, drained, or both?

All together. I love it, but I also feel very drained.

Do you have any rituals before you step in front of the camera? Anything you absolutely do even if you're in another country?

I like to be inspired by images.

What's the weirdest, most uncomfortable, or unexpected place you've posed nude?

In a forest in Rome, I was bitten by mosquitoes all over my body in a split second.

If you had to define yourself with just one word other than “model,” what would it be?

Introspective.

IN MADNESS MODE

In Almería, you shared the beach, killer skates, and mango with us (and Alice Fantasy). What stood out most for you about the Madness shoot?

Having the time to get to know each other more deeply, to learn what they do, their stories… that was what left the biggest mark on me.

The skate photos were more difficult than sexy (and you make everything look easy). How did you experience that moment? Did you laugh inside or were you silently cursing?

I thought it was super fun, although I was afraid of falling.

Did you feel comfortable with our approach? What do you think makes a Madness shoot special compared to others?

They respected me in every way, they were very attentive. I felt relaxed and under no pressure with the photos. That's what sets them apart.

We loved seeing you in the Madness sweatshirt… and even more so that you kept it! What made you say, "I'll take this one"? Have you worn it in Europe yet, or are you saving it for something special?

I loved the design and it's super comfortable. I'll definitely be using it throughout my trip.

Would you recommend working with Madness to other models? And why?

Yes, absolutely. It's a very nice experience and a good place to start, too. 🫶🏻

 EN ROUTE

Your European tour isn't stopping. Which city has inspired you the most recently and why?

Especially Paris. I've connected with photographers who match my needs.

What differences have you noticed between posing in Latin America and Europe? Do you feel more free here?

Yes, indeed. I think there are fewer taboos in Europe, and that gives me a lot more freedom.

Have you ever done a shoot that touched your soul?

Yes, a lot to be honest.

What do you always carry in your backpack, besides your passport?

My work clothes, two books, and my water bottle. They're essentials.

What's the craziest or most unexpected thing that's happened to you while traveling for work?

One day I missed my train, and my bus too… and I ended up completely lost.

BEYOND THE CHARACTER

When you're not in front of a camera, what does Mery get up to? Books, parties, nature... or a mix of all of them?

Books, nature and exercise.

Are you more into a quiet ritual or an improvised plan with an uncertain ending?

Calm ritual.

A movie or series that you could watch on repeat without getting tired of.

The Congress.

A song that gives you energy even if you're a thousand miles from home.

Difficult to choose, but any Caifanes song.

Sweet or savory? And your favorite dish for when you miss Mexico?

Sweet. Mole. 😍

What would your perfect date be like if you were in complete control of the plan?

Go to a museum, then eat something delicious and end up in a cafe.

What makes you cry openly? And what makes you laugh until your stomach hurts?

Thinking about my entire life journey makes me cry. Remembering funny moments makes me laugh until my stomach hurts.

Do you believe in free love, in eternal love… or in love that comes and goes but is well lived?

In free love.

Do you have any personal or artistic projects you're cooking up for this year?

Yes. I have plans to publish a book with all my work.

Where would you like to see yourself in five years? Alone in front of a lake or surrounded by cameras and flashbulbs?

Alone in front of a lake.

And for those who are discovering you here… where can they follow, watch, or hire you, Mery?
